17-year-old in critical condition, southbound Mountain View Corridor closed after crash

HERRIMAN — Southbound Mountain View Corridor is closed and a 17-year-old is in critical condition after he crashed his motorcycle into a dump truck hauling a pup trailer Monday morning, officials said.

Herriman police responded to reports of a crash on Mountain View Corridor at 12800 South about 7:20 a.m., according to Herriman Police Lt. Cody Stromberg. Witnesses said a black motorcycle had sped past vehicles on the shoulder of the road near 12300 South, crossed through the intersection of 12600 South in the shoulder, drove around another vehicle at 12800 South then crashed into the rear end of the dump truck.

The 17-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital in a medical helicopter in “extremely critical condition with severe head trauma,” Stromberg confirmed. The teen was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, Stromberg added.

Mountain View Corridor is closed indefinitely from 12600 South to 13400 South as authorities investigate the crash. Commuters can bypass the closure by getting off at 12600 South, Daybreak Parkway or 11800 South, according to KSL Traffic Center.
